How to Choose a Medical Tourism Facilitator in India

Medical Tourism Facilitator

A medical tourism facilitator in India is a company that arranges your treatment abroad: it matches you with a hospital and doctor, gets you a written estimate, supports your visa, and coordinates travel, admission and follow-up. To choose a good one, verify its hospital relationships, ask for itemised written quotes, check patient reviews independently, and avoid anyone who asks for large deposits before reviewing your reports.

The choice of facilitator affects your cost, your safety and your stress level. Two patients can go to the same hospital and have very different experiences because of who handled the arrangements. This guide explains what a facilitator does, how to check one, and which warning signs should make you walk away.

Quick checklist

  • Reviews your medical reports before quoting a price
  • Names the hospital and doctor in writing
  • Gives an itemised estimate with inclusions and exclusions
  • Explains how the company earns its fee
  • Has real hospital relationships you can verify directly
  • Provides a named coordinator you can reach during your stay
  • Does not pressure you into paying a deposit quickly

What does a medical tourism facilitator do?

A facilitator is your coordinator between home and the hospital. The work usually covers six areas.

  1. Case review. Your reports go to doctors who suggest a treatment plan and the right specialty.
  2. Hospital and doctor matching. The facilitator proposes options based on your condition, budget and timeline. You can browse partner hospitals and doctors on our site.
  3. Cost estimate. You receive a written estimate for treatment, room and expected stay.
  4. Visa support. The facilitator arranges the hospital letter and guides your application. See our medical visa assistance page for how this works.
  5. Travel and local support. Airport pickup, accommodation, translators and hospital admission are arranged.
  6. Follow-up. After discharge, the coordinator helps with reports, prescriptions and online consultations with your doctor.

The full list of what we arrange is on our medical services page.

Do you need a facilitator at all?

You can contact an Indian hospital’s international patient desk directly, and many patients do. A facilitator adds value when you want to compare several hospitals, need help with the visa, or cannot travel to inspect anything beforehand.

The risk lies in the third column. Anyone can call themselves a medical tourism company, so the checks below matter.

How do you choose a medical tourism facilitator in India?

1. Check that the company is a real, registered business

Look for a registered company name, a physical office address in India, a landline or verified number, and a working website with clear contact details. Search the company name together with words like “complaint” or “fraud” and read what appears. You can read about our team on the about us page.

2. Verify the hospital relationships

A trustworthy facilitator works with named hospitals and can tell you which department and doctor will treat you. Confirm this yourself by emailing the hospital’s international patient department. If a facilitator names a hospital but you cannot get that hospital to acknowledge them, treat it as a warning.

Check the hospital’s accreditation too. NABH is India’s national standard and JCI is the international one. You can see accredited hospitals we work with, such as Medanta The Medicity Gurgaon and Fortis Memorial Research Institute Gurgaon.

3. Ask who your doctor will be

A good facilitator tells you the doctor’s name, qualifications and experience before you travel. You should be able to read the profile yourself. For example, specialists are listed under best doctors for cardiac surgery in India and best doctors for cancer treatment in India. If a company will only say “our top surgeon” without a name, ask again.

4. Demand a written, itemised estimate

The estimate should state the procedure, hospital, room category, expected hospital days, implants or devices, and what is not covered. Compare it with published pricing, such as our heart bypass surgery cost in India page or the wider procedures list. Large gaps between a quote and published ranges need an explanation.

5. Understand how the facilitator is paid

Facilitators earn money in different ways. Some charge a service fee, some receive a fee from the hospital, and some do both. None of these is wrong, but you should know which applies. Ask directly: “Do I pay you anything on top of the hospital bill, and does the hospital pay you?” A company that avoids the question is hiding something.

6. Check that they review your reports first

A facilitator that quotes a fixed price without seeing your scans and test results is guessing. Real treatment plans depend on your diagnosis and condition. Good companies ask for reports first and may need a few days to get a specialist’s view.

7. Look for independent patient feedback

Read patient stories, but do not rely only on testimonials the company chose. Look at our success stories for patient accounts and then search for reviews elsewhere. Ask the facilitator whether you can speak to a past patient from your country with a similar procedure.

8. Test their communication before you pay

Send a detailed enquiry and watch what happens. Do you get a named person? Do they answer your specific questions, or do they push a package? Clear, honest answers before payment usually continue after it.

What are the red flags?

Walk away or slow down if you see any of these.

  • A price quoted without any medical reports
  • Pressure to pay a large deposit within hours or days
  • Payment requests to a personal account instead of a company or hospital account
  • A “guaranteed” outcome or success rate
  • No named doctor or hospital until after payment
  • Refusal to put terms and exclusions in writing
  • Very low quotes that are far below every published range
  • No contact in India you can reach by phone

For treatment where devices matter, such as stents, a low quote can hide a cheaper implant. Our angioplasty and stenting cost page shows how device choice changes the total.

What questions should you ask before you confirm?

  1. Which hospital and which doctor will treat me?
  2. What exactly does the estimate include and exclude?
  3. What happens if my stay is longer than planned?
  4. How much of the amount is paid to the hospital, and how much to you?
  5. Who is my coordinator, and can I reach them at night?
  6. How will you support me after I return home?
  7. Can I get a refund if my visa is refused?

Keep the answers in writing. If a company cannot answer these clearly, find another one.

How does choosing a facilitator fit into the whole plan?

The facilitator comes in at the start, but the rest of the trip also needs planning: visa, travel dates, hospital stay and recovery. Our guide to medical tourism in India in 2026 covers costs, rules and the whole process, and how to plan medical treatment in India from abroad gives a longer walkthrough. Read the medical disclaimer as well, because a facilitator coordinates care but does not replace your treating doctor’s advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is a medical tourism facilitator?
A medical tourism facilitator is a company that coordinates treatment abroad for patients. It handles hospital selection, estimates, visa letters, travel, admission and follow-up.

Is it safer to book directly with a hospital?
Booking directly is a valid choice and removes the middleman. A verified facilitator helps most when you want to compare hospitals or need visa and travel support.

How do I know if a medical tourism company is genuine?
Verify the company’s registration and address, confirm its hospital relationships with the hospital itself, ask for named doctors, and read independent reviews.

Do facilitators charge extra fees?
Some charge a service fee, some are paid by hospitals, and some do both. Ask in writing how the company earns its money.

Should I pay a deposit before my reports are reviewed?
No. A reliable facilitator reviews your reports and shares a written estimate first. Be careful with any request for a large early payment.
