Choosing a kidney hospital in India is a narrower decision than it looks, because the things that matter are specific and checkable. A transplant programme should be doing living donor transplants in real volume rather than occasionally, should have its own tissue typing and crossmatch laboratory rather than sending samples out, and should have a transplant coordinator who handles Authorisation Committee paperwork for foreign nationals every week rather than once a year. That last point decides whether your legal process takes three weeks or three months. For non-transplant nephrology, the equivalent question is whether the hospital has a specialist renal pathologist with immunofluorescence and electron microscopy on site, because that capability is what makes a kidney biopsy worth having.
