Choosing a hospital for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in India

The gap between reconstructive surgery hospitals in India is wider than most patients expect, and it comes down to one thing: whether the hospital runs microsurgery as a standing department or arranges it when a case turns up. The best plastic and reconstructive surgery hospitals in India keep a dedicated microsurgery and hand unit, an ICU trained to monitor a free flap hourly through the first 72 hours, and a theatre stocked with microvascular instruments and a surgical microscope that is in use every week rather than every few months. That is what holds free flap survival at 95 to 98%.

The hospitals listed below were shortlisted on that basis, along with NABH or JCI accreditation, the volume of reconstructive cases handled each year, and how well the plastic surgery department works with oncology, orthopaedics, and the burns unit. Several are in Delhi NCR, where our own network is anchored, with others in Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. Send your reports and we will tell you which two or three fit your case, with an itemised cost for each.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best hospital for plastic and reconstructive surgery in India?
There is no single best hospital, because the right choice depends on your procedure. A hospital with an outstanding burns unit is not automatically the right place for a DIEP flap breast reconstruction, and a cancer centre with a strong head and neck reconstruction team may not be the strongest choice for hand replantation. What every good reconstructive surgery hospital in India shares is a dedicated microsurgery unit, NABH or JCI accreditation, and a high annual volume of flap cases.
Do these hospitals treat international patients?
Yes. Every hospital on this list has an international patient department handling visa letters, interpreters, foreign exchange, and airport transfers. Most of our patients travel from Iraq, Oman, Sudan, Nigeria, Kenya, Bangladesh, and the wider Middle East and Africa. Nobel Medi Assistance coordinates on top of that, so you have one point of contact for the hospital, the surgeon, your stay, and follow-up after you return home.
Are hospitals in Delhi NCR better for reconstructive surgery than other cities?
Delhi NCR has a heavy concentration of high volume reconstructive and microsurgery units, and it is where our own network is strongest, which usually means faster appointments and closer coordination. Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad also have excellent plastic surgery hospitals in India. We recommend by case, not by city, and will say so if your procedure is better handled elsewhere.
What accreditation should a reconstructive surgery hospital in India have?
NABH accreditation is the Indian national standard and is the minimum you should accept. JCI accreditation is the international equivalent and a smaller number of hospitals hold it. Either confirms that infection control, ICU protocols, surgical safety checks, and patient records are independently audited. For flap surgery specifically, also ask whether the ICU has a written flap monitoring protocol, since that is what protects the result in the first three days.
How do I get a cost estimate from these hospitals?
Send your clinical photographs, any scans, your surgical or oncology history, and recent blood reports through our contact form or on WhatsApp. We circulate the case to the shortlisted hospitals and return an itemised estimate from each within 48 hours, showing the surgeon's fee, hospital charges, implants or grafts, ICU time, and anaesthesia separately. There is no charge for this and no obligation to book.
