Dr Giriraj Bora

Dr Giriraj Bora is Chairperson of Liver Transplant and Senior Consultant in GI & HPB Surgery at Artemis Hospital, Gurugram. He is one of India's leading experts in liver transplantation, hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery and gastrointestinal surgery, with more than 2,000 liver transplants performed, including both living donor and deceased donor procedures.

Born in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Dr Bora completed his medical degree and MS in Surgery at JLN Medical College, Ajmer, in 2003. He went on to serve as Senior Resident in the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, between 2004 and 2005, before completing his MCh in Surgical Gastroenterology at G.B. Pant Hospital, Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, in 2008.

He performed the first-ever liver transplant in Rajasthan, including both the state's first living donor and first deceased donor liver transplants, a milestone for which he was felicitated by the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Since joining Artemis Hospital in 2016, he has played a pivotal role in developing one of India's most advanced liver units, which is the only unit in the country performing pure laparoscopic and pure robotic liver donor surgeries.

Dr Bora is a founding member of the Liver Transplant Society of India and a member of the International Liver Transplant Society (ILTS). He has presented his work at major international conferences, including ILTS meetings in San Francisco (2012) and Sydney (2013), where he received a Travel Award and a Young Investigator Award respectively.
