Prof. (Dr.) Arvind Kumar is a pioneer of Chest and Robotic Chest Surgery in India. He currently serves as Chairman of the Institute of Chest Surgery, Chest Cancer Surgery and Lung Transplantation, and Co-Chairman of the Medanta Robotic Institute, at Medanta - The Medicity, Gurugram.

Starting his career at AIIMS, New Delhi in the late 1980s, Dr. Kumar worked to build Thoracic Surgery as a distinct discipline in India, and was instrumental in getting it recognised as a stand-alone super-specialty by the National Board in 2014. His niche areas include lung cancer, thymoma, and tracheal surgery.

He led the first double lung transplantation in North India, performed at Medanta - The Medicity, Gurugram in November 2022, and performed the first robotic esophagectomy in North India for esophageal cancer at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi in May 2012.
