Dr. Upadhyaya was among the first rheumatologists in India to use biologic agents for a range of rheumatological disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory spondylitis, and ankylosing spondylitis. He has been involved in advanced clinical research on new molecules and biological agents for rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and lupus (SLE), and was part of the team that developed the Indian Rheumatology Association (IRA) guidelines for rheumatoid arthritis treatment.
He is fluent in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Bhojpuri, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Kashmiri, and Malayalam, and is a regular contributor to continuing medical education (CME) programs, lectures, and professional development for other physicians in rheumatology.
