Dr Kumud Rai

Dr (Col) Kumud Rai is Principal Director of Vascular Surgery at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, New Delhi, and one of India's most distinguished vascular and endovascular surgeons, with over four decades of experience. He completed his MBBS at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, in 1978, and his MS in Surgery from Pune University in 1984.

He went on to train in vascular surgery at Erasmus University Hospital, Rotterdam, Holland, and holds fellowships from Erasmus University and the American College of Surgeons, USA. Before joining Max Healthcare in 2006, he served as Professor of Surgery and Vascular Surgery, and later Head of the Department of Vascular Surgery, at AFMC, Pune, as well as Head of Vascular Surgery at Army Hospital (Research & Referral), Delhi.

Dr Rai's areas of expertise include aortic aneurysm repair, peripheral bypass surgery, varicose vein treatment (laser, radiofrequency ablation and surgery), dialysis access procedures, carotid endarterectomy, and the treatment of carotid body tumours and other vascular malformations. He is a leading authority on vascular reconstruction, endovascular interventions, peripheral arterial disease and venous thromboembolism.

He has served as President of the Vascular Society of India and Vice President of the International Society for Vascular Surgery, and has trained numerous vascular surgeons under his mentorship. He is a member of several international professional bodies including the Society for Vascular Surgery (USA), the European Society for Vascular Surgery, the International Society of Endovascular Specialists, the World Federation of Vascular Societies, and the American College of Surgeons.
