About Dr Rajiv Parakh
Dr Rajiv Parakh is Chairman of the Division of Peripheral Vascular and Endovascular Sciences at Medanta – The Medicity, Gurugram, and one of India's pioneering vascular surgeons with over four decades of clinical and academic experience.
He completed his MBBS and MS in General Surgery at Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, in 1982 and 1986 respectively, and went on to acquire the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, UK (FRCS), in 1987. After training in vascular surgery in the United Kingdom, he returned to India in 1990 to establish one of the country's first independent departments of vascular surgery at a Delhi hospital.
Dr Parakh's areas of expertise include peripheral vascular and endovascular surgery, carotid surgery, endovascular interventions, endovascular repair of aneurysms, below-the-knee angioplasty, salvage of failing vascular access in dialysis patients, vascular malformation treatment, and complex limb ischemia management.
He previously chaired the Department of Peripheral Vascular and Endovascular Sciences at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, from 1999 to 2010, before joining Medanta – The Medicity in 2010. He has been elected Secretary and later Vice President of the International Society for Vascular Surgery, and serves as National Convener for the teaching programme of the National Board of Examiners.
Dr Parakh has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in national and international journals on topics including carotid interventions, endovascular advancements and aneurysm management, and regularly contributes to vascular surgery textbooks and CME modules, mentoring young surgeons. He has chaired significant conferences and orations in the field, and was honoured with the Sushil Malik Oration by the Indian Medical Association.
