Dr Rakesh Mahajan

Dr Rakesh Mahajan is a Senior Consultant in Vascular Surgery at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi, with over 36 years of experience. He has been with Apollo since September 2004, where he has been instrumental in establishing and building the Department of Vascular Surgery into one of the most trusted centres for vascular and endovascular care in the region.

He completed his MBBS in 1984 and his MS in Surgery in 1989, both at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He went on to earn his FRCS from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons, Glasgow, in 1994, followed by FRCS (General Surgery) from the Royal Colleges of Surgeons, UK, in 2002, and a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) from the Specialist Training Authority, UK, the same year. Before joining Apollo, he worked as a Consultant Surgeon at Royal Gwent Hospital in the UK.

Dr Mahajan's expertise spans a comprehensive range of vascular conditions, including varicose vein treatment, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism, limb salvage, aortic surgery, carotid surgery, dialysis access procedures and comprehensive vascular trauma management. He specializes in the management of diabetic foot problems, including revascularization, debridement and stem cell therapy, and limb salvage for gangrene, peripheral vascular disease and Buerger's disease through both endovascular treatment (angiography, angioplasty, stenting) and open bypass surgery.

At Apollo, he has treated thousands of patients, including many from abroad, while maintaining high international standards of care. He actively contributes to research in vascular surgery and has presented at prestigious international conferences.
